Professor Bing Yang was invited to visit the Britton Chance Biomedical Photonics Research Center.

Invited by Professor Zhang Zhihong, Dr. Shi Bingyang visited the Britton Chance biomedical photonics research center, and had a seminar entitled "Nanoparticles based theranostics" in december 28, 2016.

In the seminar, Dr. Shi Bingyang systematically explained the concept of nanoparticles (NPS) and introduced its applications, such as bio-imaging, diagnostics, drugs, gene delivery, biosensors and photodynamic therapy. Nanoparticles can be designed and developed on the basis of various core materials (metals, semiconductors, silicon dioxide and organic polymers), by adjusting the reaction conditions, such as time, temperature and catalyst,   the size and morphology of the NPs can be controlled. According to its introduction, a variety of surface functional groups and targeting ligands can be linked into the core material as an additional domain, thus regulating the surface properties of nanoparticles, and can be better applied to biomedical usage. Subsequently, the report highlights a variety of advanced nanoparticles that have been designed and developed over the past five years, including polymer nanoparticles, nanogel-based nanoparticles, mesoporous silica nanoparticles, and nanofabrication. These advanced nanoparticles are widely used in drugs, gene delivery, early detection of cancer and photodynamic therapy, and other potential medical applications. After the seminar, the audience have a very active discussion with Dr. Shi Bingyang  about application of nanoparticles.
